Endogenous and exogenous aspects in the developmental dynamics of relational networks of local and regional elites in Japan's early medieval period
The purpose of this project lies in an analysis of the methods and options of the ruled. In addition to the previous emphasis on “Herrschaft” in its functional and institutional differentiation among courtier and warrior elites, the religious institutions and their personnel will now be another focus. The impact of religious conceptions and practices on the development of different aspects of self-organization during late 13th until the middle of the 15th century make up the core of our investigations.
