Re-Fragmentation of the Pharaonic State. The new power of the local elite(s) at the end of the third millennium
In the first project-stage, the project examined the strategies to shape hierarchies and the development of power structures resulting in a very new type of state extended over a large territory. In symmetry, the second stage of the project examines the first refragmentation of this ‘territorial state’ with its focus on the local elites. The strategies of presentation and legitimation of the elites during this period of extensive transformation, both regarding social-history and history of mentalities, is analysed systematically and at the same time specifically based on two case studies of two local potentates.
